White House Official Larry Kudlow: This Coronavirus Thing Really Snuck Up on Us!

As fact-checkers, other media professionals, and at least a handful of small children, sports mascots, and domesticated animals have pointed out ad nauseam by now, when Donald Trump or anyone else from his administration claims that no one saw the coronavirus coming, they are completely full of shit. In fact, health officials had been warning about the coming pandemic for months, and starting in early January, said warnings were detailed in the president’s intelligence briefings, those pesky books of information Trump reportedly only pays “sporadic attention” to. Yet even as the warnings became increasingly urgent beginning in early February, Trump chose to downplay the threat of COVID-19 to the public out of some woefully misguided attempt to keep the stock market happy, claiming, on various occasions that the virus would simply go away on its own by April, and that it was no worse than the flu. Meanwhile, his never-right National Economic Council chairman took to the airwaves numerous times to tell investors to buy the dip, warning them that the only thing they had to fear was missing an incredible rally.

At this point, with the U.S. death toll surpassing 10,000, the White House has mostly—mostly!—gotten the whole this thing is a hoax, this thing is fake news, the coronavirus is actually good for you schtick out of its system. But it’s still not ready to make the leap to admitting it knew how very real and deadly the disease was the whole time it was claiming otherwise. Instead, seemingly in answer to the question “Does the Trump administration think we’re stupid?” it’s going with this:

No! Wrong! And we know this is wrong because everyone predicted it! The World Health Organization predicted it! Bill Gates predicted it! Trump’s bloody Health and Human Services Secretary predicted it! Obviously Kudlow himself couldn’t have predicted it, because he can’t accurately predict anything, but that’s what the actual medical and public health experts are for. Y’know, the ones the president appears to be silencing in real time.

This is one of the people Trump is apparently listening to on hydroxychloroquine:

Area man cannot for the life of him figure out why not cramming thousands of people into one room might be a good idea right now

Wonder why, indeed!
