Those who have been wondering when the H&M store will open downtown won’t have to wait too much longer.
Bedrock announced Tuesday in a news release that the trendy retailer, located at 1505 Woodward Ave., will open Nov. 21 at noon.
To celebrate the grand opening, H&M will offer the first 500 shoppers an Access to Fashion Pass, which is valued between $10 and $500. Customers in line after the first 500 shoppers will receive a $10 pass. In addition, customers who garment recycle on opening day can enter to win a gift card between $50 and $500.
Bedrock, the real estate arm of businessman Dan Gilbert’s family of companies, first announced the Swedish retailer was coming to Detroit earlier this year. The 25,000 square foot space will feature men’s, women’s and children’s apparel in one location, and be the first downtown location to offer a full range of apparel in decades.
The store will also add 20 people to its staff.
H&M has several locations across metro Detroit including stores in Fairlane Town Center, Twelve Oaks Mall, Southland Shopping Center and Macomb Mall.

“As Bedrock’s largest retail tenant, H&M signals a tipping point for the historic Woodward Shopping District,” said Bedrock CEO Matt Cullen in a statement. “For the first time in decades, shopping for the whole family is available on our main thoroughfare, and there is much more to come. This global brand will fit perfectly with the local businesses, tech companies, startups and fellow fashion industry leaders that already call Woodward home. This is an important next step in Detroit’s evolution as a destination for shopping, entertainment, dining and doing business. We look forward to continuing the momentum a retailer like H&M represents.”
JGA Inc., a Southfield-based retail design firm, helped create the layout of the downtown store. Company chairman Ken Nisch said the H&M location will consist of three stories and have the look of an “urban store” compared to the retailer’s other locations in metro Detroit.
“The downtown store will definitely have an unique feel than the rest of the stores in the area,” he said.
“It will be very different from a shopping mall, where you have one, big, simple square.”
Store hours will be Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
